Description:Hotchkiss common and case shot shells took different types of adapters. The common shell fuse didn't have to extend as far to work properly. Because soldiers were mixing them up, in the last year or so of the war Hotchkiss made the ones for common shells with a smaller diameter at the threads. This one looks like it will screw into a shell.
