Description:6" long wood fuse for use in large round mortar shells. This would be cut down to the desired burn duration length.

Because of their long arcing flight, mortar balls required time fuses that would burn longer than the standard paper time fuses could be made to burn. As a result, very long wood time fuses were employed.
