Description:Short copper Confederate time fuse adapter. Normally the short ones are used in spherical shells, but this type is found in rifled shells, often with a Girardey percussion insert in it. As the war progressed, the Confederate army folks were begging for more percussion fuses and this is what they got. The adapter itself is distinctive with its rounded bottm -- the evidence of the Confederates literally "cutting corners" to save copper as the war got along and it became more and more scarce.
