Description:This is a really nice seacoast water cap fuse adapter for large cannon balls designed by Cyrus Alger. In 1840 Alger was looking to improve the effectiveness of the paper time fuses use on Naval shells. So he designed a brass version of the wood adapter with a threaded hole in the top that accepts a brass water cap cover to protect the paper time fuse that is under it but with small directed holes to allow the flame to light the fuse. It is a big piece of brass with great patina!
If not missing the water cap in the center it would be a $300+ fuse. I"m sure you'll like it.
