Description:This is a really cool relic. It is a James percussion fuse. These are a two-piece fuse and most all examples you see are a separate anvil cap and a slider. I'm not sure how this happened but this is a slider fused to the cap as one piece. I suspect it would not be hard to break them apart but it is cool the way it is. The only thing I can figure is that the shell penetrated the ground and blew up with the slider somehow resting perfectly against the anvil after the explosion. There is no rust stains on the fuse so it does not appear to have had any shrapnel touching it in the hole. It is just a really cool piece for those who like oddities. But the condition of the fuse is very nice with a bright green patina. (For whatever reason the green shows as near white in the images.)
