Description:This is the ever popular "Cast I" button. They are very sturdy compared to most hollow buttons. A later war issue many were lost due to the way they were made. the shank is an integral part of the casting and the hole for the attachment thread was made by drilling through the brass. This left sharp edges which pretty quickly cut through the thread causing the button to be lost. Most are found in the western campaign but some have been found in Virginia. This dug button is uncleaned and still has some crusty patina on the front and back that hasn't been cleaned off. This is a nice example at a very good price.
