Description:Half section of a 24pdr spherical shell. This one has the rebate under the Bormann time fuse that the Confederates used to place a gasket to help prevent premature detonation. You can see remnants of the gasket under the fuse and rebates in the "corners" at the bottom on both sides of the fuse. This was a valiant attempt to correct the issues they were having but by October of 1862 they gave up on the Bormann time fuses and ordered it discontinued.
