Description:This example of a Bormann cannon ball is a super display piece. It shows a good fuse sitting on top of a nice brass under plug. Unlike most Bormann half shells the fuse is still flat against the under plug where often powder expansion arches the fuse upward. The shell was also was cast with a safety groove under the fuse that a leather washer sat in to help prevent premature ignition. The leather is still evident. The powder cavity is nice and clean, devoid of rust. The outer iron is very smooth. Just a great example. Also, unlike lots of half shells, we have great provenance on this shell half. It was found as part of the shells recovered in the Savannah River that flowed by the Confederate Powder Works.
A prior owner, as can be seen in the images, applied text indicating what it is and where it was found. I can remove this if desired.
Shell half is inert, cleaned and coated.
