Description:Really cool frag of a Hotchkiss case shot shell. You can see inside where the pusher plate sat above the powder cavity. These shells were designed to break like this at the nose with the pusher plate propelling the balls forward. This was the thinnest section of the shell for that reason and it is common to see them break in a fairly clean line at this point. That means it worked!
These are only recovered at Vicksburg. It mics at 3.65" so is for a 3.8" James rifle. Iron is very nice like Vicksburg iron tends to be.
Nose comes with a huge piece of lead Hotchkiss sabot. Big chunk of lead!
