Description:
Here is a very nice bolt recovered from the dumping in the Oconee River. These were put into the river by the CS Milledgeville Ordnance Depot when being abandoned by the Confederates in November 1864 before being occupied by union forces who destroyed the Depot. There were some incredible CS shells and some other items found there over the years.

This short bolt at about 6.75" long and 3.19" diameter was made for the either the CS 3.25" or CS 3.3" guns. The long thin sabot was able to expand to fit either. It has nice thick and prominent bourrelets and the body comes to a nice point.

The iron is very good showing being mostly smooth with some shallow marks from when the river crust we removed. The shell's sabot is near perfect with very faint lathe marks present. There is one deep groove that is likely from the shop finisher letting his tool gouge the sabot when he was finishing the shell. The base has what is known as the pancake disk in the bottom that is indicative of Selma (or one of it's contractors) manufacture.

Projectile is inert, cleaned and coated.
