Description:
offered here is a wonderful Dyer canister for a 3 inch gun faithfully rebuilt by Dave Gotter. This is a great example using nice white canister balls in very good condition. The lead base cup is in near perfect condition.
The only non-original part is the thin top plate which are nearly impossible to get original in good enough condition to use. They largely were obliterated when fired and those who did survive usually were consumed by rust. Dave has fabricated one from old tin to match the original.
This example displays as good as you could ask of one. A projectile collection is not complete without a good selection of canister as they were an important part of a cannon's effectiveness. Soldiers dreaded charging into cannon armed with canister.
This projectile is from a large California estate collection of the late Bill Tracy. The "I176" number on the base is his collection number.
Projectile is inert, cleaned and coated.
