Description:
This is one of the nicest condition Hotchkiss case shot shells for the 3 inch Ordnance gun we've offer. What makes it special is that even though it was made for the Ordnance gun, this particular round was fired from a Parrott gun which we can tell from the 3 large lands and grooves clearly formed on the sabot.
The condition of this shell is top notch. The iron is very good with only enough ground action to show it was dug. The lead sabot is much whiter than normally found and in great shape with no pulls, etc even though it is fired. As mentioned above, there are three distinct raised ridges that fit the 3 grooves of the 10-lber Parrott rifle. The most interesting thing to note about the rifling is that the flame grooves of the shell were perfectly lined up with the 3 grooves in the gun when fired so the raised portion of the shell rifling is directly on each shell groove. The fuse is in great shape with one small ding from impact but all in all a very good condition Hotchkiss time adapter.
Shell is inert, cleaned and coated. (Note in the image the shell was not disarmed when the images were taken but the shell will be inert when shipped.)
