Description:12pdr Confederate polygonal cavity shell from Spanish Fort / Fort Blakeley, AL. I can feel the lines of weakness inside with my pinkie finger. It also has a distinct mold seam that can be seen across the room.

These ingenious shells were the brainchild of Colonel John W. Mallet, Superintendent of Confederate Laboratories at Macon, Georgia. Cast with lines of weakness along geometric patterns, these were designed to fracture uniformly into a dozen pieces.
