Description:This is a very good 12 Pounder Bormann fused cannon ball. The iron is super good. I don't think it has really even been cleaned as there are some small spots of scale on it that come off easy which makes me think it wasn't cleaned. What is really neat is that you can see the shadow of the cup and tie down straps which tells us that this shell wasn't shot out of a cannon. The shell doesn't look to be coated but I can give it some TLC if desired and coat it at no additional cost.
While what is there of the fuse is very smooth with no corrosion, there are pieces above the powder train that are missing. I think moisture must have swelled and pushed the pieces off but I can't be sure what happened. This fuse was apparently a blind shell as there is no evidence of numbers and I'm sure I can see a few dots. For that reason I called this a US shell.
Shell is inert, clean and not coated.
