Please Note: The American Digger Magazine inadvertently sent out show advertising saying that their Chattanooga Show was this coming weekend, July 20th. That is the weekend of the North South Trader's Show in Doswell, VA. The American Digger show is the following weekend, July 27th. BulletAndShell.com will be at both! Hope to see you there.

Description:This is a mortar shell judging from the 46 pd 14 oz weight as the Columbiad shells are about 59 pounds. Oddly it is fitted with a water cap fuse. It is not uncommon to find the 8 inch balls with the Seacoast water cap but fitted with the threaded water cap used in Dahlgren balls are very uncommon. This one is even more uncommon in that the water cap fuse is the unmarked CS version thus making this a Confederate used shell. This is a very neat and uncommon (probably rare) shell in that neither the US or CS water cap version is in the heavy artillery book.

The shell appears to have been disarmed by drilling through the fuse. The fuse body is fine but the water cap insert is only partially there as it has a 1/4" hole drilled through it. If you found a replacement insert you could probably remove the existing drilled one and put in a complete one. But the insert with the hole has patina everywhere so the hole isn't distracting to me.

Iron on the shell is uncleaned but looks pretty decent. The fuse has nice patina.

It is preferable to pick up at a show as I'm not sure what shipping might be but I will ship it.

Shell is inert and coated.
