Description:Here is a chance to own a shell that it not found commonly for a very good price. This is the Hotchkiss shell made to be fired from a rifled 6-lber gun. Most of these were bolts or used he iron anvil percussion but this shell has the Hotchkiss brass time adapter which has great dark patina. The iron is in good shape. The shell threw the sabot when fired so it is missing the lead band around the center. The base cup is present though chipped. It has faint places where you can see the patent information stamped into the cup bottom. Also, in the groove of the cup are the traces of lead from the sabot and this has turned white which shows it off. The only issue is that the person who cleaned it seemed to do so with a grinder or something to get the rust off to make it fit. On most of the shell he did fine but it appears that to make the base cup fit the bottom of the nose he ground into the iron. So on the one side where the cup is chipped you can see grind marks on that lower portion. Since obviously the cup was off at one time I can't be sure it is original to the shell nose. Otherwise it displays very well and with the chipped cup side in the rear you can't really see any issue.
Shell is disarmed, cleaned and coated.
