Description:The 3.8" caliber Hotchkiss is occasionally seen but they are most often with the brass Hotchkiss time fuse or iron West Point percussion. A small percentage of this caliber were made with the Zinc Hotchkiss Type-I paper time fuse adapter. I believe all these are case shot shells. Dickey and George has this shell with a rarity of 9 and indicates that "Almost all known specimens are excavated from Vicksburg".
This shell is a pretty good example. While it is missing the sabot, the iron is very good. This style does not have flame grooves. The zinc fuse is in nice condition with both spanner holes present.
Shell is inert, cleaned and coated.
