Description:Archer projectiles are distinctively Confederate and very much cherished by collectors. They and the James projectile are probably the two most sought after projectiles we hear about. Most Archer projectiles are solid with only a small percentage being explosive shells.
This fine example is a solid shot with the flat tip nose. The iron is very good with minimal ground action seen. The vast majority of fired Archer's lost their sabot. But here is a dropped (unfired) version of the projectile so the sabot is still present. There is some chipping of the brittle lead on one side on the top edge but the other side displays well.
There was no provenance with this shell in the collection notes I got this from but it is very likely from Shiloh. This type is one of the varieties found there and there were a good many dropped Archers found at Shiloh since the battle lines moved aggressively over two days.
Projectile is inert, cleaned and coated.
