Description:We are proud to offer this top notch Confederate shell. While bourreleted Reads are plentiful this shorter style for the CS 3.3-inch Rifle are not. And CS percussion shells in the field caliber ordnance are very hard to come across. These Read shells are found in Vicksburg and Spanish Fort and a few other places in small numbers. Most, as is this one, are from the Oconee River in Milledgeville, GA where they were dumped.
This example has really good iron. A little TLC to remove some flaking of the clear coat would make it even look better. The bourrelets are really crisp and the unfired copper sabot is nice with good patina. This shell like the others found in the river did not have a fuse in it as they were removed before being dumped in the river. I have added a nice one to this shell which screws in and out by hand. The slider is really good with both percussion cap wires in place.
This is really a great shell that would enhance any collection. If you like nice CS shells don't miss this one!
Shell is inert, cleaned and coated.
