Description:This is frequently seen caliber 8 inch shell used in battle around Mobile Bay. This one is reportedly recovered in Spanish Fort. As the shell wall is 2" thick it is a typical common shell and not a mortar shell. This shell has the tong holes on it for lifting and positioning the ball in the guns bore. The tapered fuse hole took the wooden adapter which was fitted with a paper time fuse. The fuse hole and tong holes are in good crisp condition. I suspect this shell had the wood adapter in it when found but was removed to disarm it. The shell body shows lots of ground action but none is deep and it displays pretty good. You don't see these under $200 very often. A great shell for the money.

Shell is inert, cleaned and coated.
