I don't recall when but it was in the 70's I think that a cache of shells for the 3" gun was found there. Most of the rounds were 3" Hotchkiss with a few canister rounds. I have a Hotchkiss shell and canister round from that grouping in my collection.

This shell is a dropped round as you would expect coming from a cache. It was presumably right behind a gun emplacement. It has nice sabot with no dings. The fuse adapter is very good as well. This round does not appear to have had the patent date on the bottom. The iron has even peppering all over. It is a nice example with great provenance.

This shell, as you can tell by the complete cleaning job, was sold by Harry Ridgeway to the person I purchased it from. I have a copy of his original listing for $325. The shell appears very shiny in the images but not so much in my hands. The gloss coating can be removed and replace with a satin finish.

Shell is inert, cleaned and coated.
