Description:This is a neat Read shell. It is one of the longer varieties and has very distinctive bourrelets of the thicker variety. The iron does show some pitting but also some smooth paces and overall displays well. It still has the lathe lug on it. It used a wood fuse adapter and has a nice decently clean fuse hole. The sabot is what really makes this shell special. It is in good shape with no pulls and nicely shows the 7 lands-n-grooves or the ordnance gun. Additionally there are 3 flame grooves cast into the sabot that align with 3 flame groove in the lower bourrelet. The 3 flame grooves indicate it is made in the Fall of 1862 at the Richmond foundry of Snyder & Walker.

This is a real nice variant of the typical Virginia Read.

Shell is inert, cleaned and coated.
