Description:This shell was designed by Junius Archer of the Bellona foundry where many of the Archers were likely made. Some have also been found in the Alabama River at Selma and at Shiloh with the "G" stamp on them so likely some were made by Selma or some of the subcontractors. The shell is far less common than the bolt. The Archer is one of the most desired shell by collectors.
This example is in good shape with no pitting; only mild ground action to the iron. You can clearly see the grooves on the tail and the dimples that helped prevent the lead sabot from slipping. Like nearly all Archers it is missing the sabot. It has a nice big fuse hole that took the wood fuse adapter. A very good example for the collection.
Shell is inert, cleaned and coated.
