The Bartleson Field Guide of ACW Ordnance;
« on: June 25, 2012, 09:07:30 AM »
To All;
   i was browsing in Amazon.com yesterday under the search title of "Civil War Ordnance" and I saw my book published under a new cover but still bearing my name as the author.  Can someone tell me who re-published it?
Best Regards,
John

In the lower right corner, difficult to see, is this so I wonder if it is now considered to be in the "public domain.":

"Civil War Explosive Ordnance 1861- 1865,Published 16 June 1972, Indian Head MD.I helped John with the Book,I'm the eighth (8th) name in the acknowledgements & have copy #10 (If I remember correctly).I feel that John got "Screwed" on this.My point is he did all the work,and I know it's public domain,but why shouldn't he share in the profit ???

 Thank you Jack,
     It was written and illustrated at the request of my C.O.  All of the photos and radiography was done at the EOD Technical Center, Stump Neck Annex, Indian Head MD.  so I was not permitted any copyright but had the enlightment to see it go into print.  After the initial distribution to all four EOD services it went throgh two additional printings for public release.  I laugh at the $20 price tag on Amazon knowing the original GPO price was under $3.00
   During the writing, I met such fine historians and collectors that donated imagess.  This is where I met my friend of many years, Jack Wells.
Kind Regards,
John

Hello everybody. I've been reading the post's for a long timeand  I've finally joined.
A few months ago I won a book on E-BAY.  After reading the posts  and looking at the name, I realized  Mr John D, Bartleson Jr. that it was your book.  I won it for $9.95.  Its a great book and full of  great info. I'm proud to have it in my collection.

Welcome aboard, Bryan, or in your case, Semper Fi!

John is a great contributor to the forum and an all around good guy!  If you can get him to reveal his Summer Headquarters' address, my guess is the old Navy man will sign it for a Marine.

Not so for the downloaded book being marketed by bthose Michigan poseurs.  ;)

I had to go to Amazon and see the reprint.  The bottom right reads REPRINTS FROM THE COLLECTION OF
THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN LIBRARY.

To scottfromgrorgia the title is     CIVIL WAR EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE
                                                            1861-1865

                                                          16 June 1972

                                            US NAVAL SCHOOL, EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL
                                             US NAVAL ORDNANCE STATION
                                             INDIAN HEAD, MARYLAND

John I'll get mine packed up and send it to you to sign.  I want to thank you for taking the time to sign it for me.

To All,
  I just received the Michigan University Library reprint of my book.  I was curious as to quality, don't buy it!  the photos and radiographs are sooo poor it is not worth the money they are asking for.
sorry,
John
