Grandaddy Of Relic Shows: Franklin
« on: November 24, 2019, 04:30:09 PM »
Well, we aren't far from the granddaddy of relic shows in Franklin, TN.  In fact it is 10 days after Thanksgiving.  Always a good show.  So big you can't help but find something there.  The Franklin Show and Mansfield Show are a good bit bigger than any other of the Civil War Relic Shows.   Mike and I have expanded to 5 tables so we hope to haul a bunch there and hope to haul a bunch of new stuff home!  We are looking forward to seeing the many forumites that normally attend.

As always, the shows are a good time to bring shells for disarming and/or cleaning.
Best,
Carl

5 tables?  I need that many myself!  This is one of the few drive-able shows for me.  Its a great location and a highlight of the year.

As always Franklin is a super great show.  Sales were steady and there seemed to be more than the normal amount of artillery there.  While I didn't have time to peruse the bullets there seemed to be plenty to be found on tables and I even sold a good number of them.  I was able to pick up a couple nice shells for my collection which is the top goal of doing the shows so very happy with that.  I'll post images later this week when I get a chance to unpack and get images taken.  The other top enjoyment factor of the show is the many forumites that attend.  Lots of good conversation and catching up.  Thanks for coming by.
Best,
Carl

I made it to the Gettysburg Show parking lot but unfortunately had to leave abruptly before attending the show so Franklin was my first chance to get back out on the circuit and see so many friends.  It was fun and very busy.

I managed to find time for a little shopping and picked up a couple things, including this Mullane bolt recovered in nearby Triune, TN.  Fortunately, I had the lead sabot recovered from another place in TN already.  See D&G page 208 for info on this oddball.

According to the fellow I got it from, it was fired by Nathan Bedford Forrest's troops during a raid on 6/13/1863

Wonderful piece.  Read bolts in the 2.9"/3" caliber are rare as hen's teeth.  Great pickup.
