1860 primer box coatings
« on: August 27, 2019, 06:22:24 PM »
just got an 1860 primer box, and was wondering if it was standard to be silvered inside, japanned outside and then painted gray-green?

Neat box.  I am afraid I don't know.  Certainly outside my knowledge area.  I sold one about a year ago or so and don't recall what the finish was like.
Best,

I looked at mine.  Some are Japaned on the outside, others are not , and never were...   and there are quite a few variations of size and stampings on the lids too.  Something new to collect for you !!  One of each !
