I know this isn't a Civil War piece so hopefully it's still welcome here  ???

I have been using this 155mm projectile as a coin jar for the past several years but never really took the time to find out what if anything it's worth.

Do you guys collect this type of piece?

Not really what I collect but I like it. You use it as a coin jar so that being said I assume it is hollow and inert. Is this the case?
It's not always "Survival of the fitest" sometimes the idiots get through.

Yes it was properly disarmed before I got it, and I don't have a fuse.

On the Bullet and Shell sales site:
     http://www.bulletandshell.com
in addition to some great deals there are some links on the left side of the home page to help with shell identification, show dates, and other informative information.  The link pertinent to your posting is:
     http://www.cartridgecollectors.org/index.php?page=introduction-to-artillery-shells-and-shell-casings
About 80% of the way down is what I think is your shell.  The description is:
  • Cargo shells (Figure 35) are used to deliver submunitions or sensors to a target.  Submunitions (Figure 36) typically tend to be antipersonnel grenades, antimaterial grenades, antipersonnel mines, or antitank mines.  The shells look a lot like explosive shells.  The shells deliver their load when a time fuze in the nose sets off an expelling charge that expels the submunitions from the rear of the shell.
If so, very neat projectile.
