Andersonville, Georgia

Went to Andersonville today for the very first time. Just by happenstance it was the 20th anniversary of the P.O.W. Museum. Had a lot going on. Had numerous speakers including former P.O.W.'s. Although it was nice. it was not what I had expected. The Museum seemed to be more geared for the Vietnam P.O.W. So I was a little disappointed in the museum. I realize our Vietnam War P.O.W.'s deserve a memorial as well, but I don't think this is the place for it. The actual stockade site was neat. Would love to run a coil over it but alas, I don't want to end up in a stockade myself. The Cemetery was solemn. Even found the Raiders's graves.
It's not always "Survival of the fitest" sometimes the idiots get through.

My Grandparents use to live near Andersonville and I got to spend a fair amount of time there. Years ago when I was reenacting I got the honor of spending the entire weekend in the park and actually sleeping in the stockade. It was a sobering experience.
