12# cannister
« on: January 01, 2018, 12:05:54 PM »
I want to put together a 12# canister myself. Looking for the parts if anybody has any. Don't expect to get all the parts at once. I know the plates will be the hardest to locate.

Unless you have a lot of the parts already, it is probably cheaper and, definitely faster and easier, to buy one than build one from parts.  The parts are getting hard to find, especially at reasonable prices.  At the last show Carl had a couple rounds that were well priced but could have benefited from being re-done (thus discounted to full retail).  Not sure if he has them still, but if you are coming up to Charleston next weekend you can see.  If all else fails, I have an extra bottom plate

The hardest part to get is the thin top plate. I have many different size thick plates and canister balls from Selma that I can trade.

Take emikes advice and save yourself a great many headaches. The reconstructed canisters may have a  reproduction top plate, but if they are done well it won't detract from the canister's display properties.

Ok Mike you convinced me. Carl, what you got? No I wont make it to Charleston this year unfortunately. I was saving my leave time to go back to Gettysburg in June. But since my wife is pregnant now and the baby is due at that time we wont be going to THE BURG. But it was too late to put in for time off for Charleston. Alas I will have to wait till 2019 and it will be Gettysburg.
