Tennessee Sabot Markings
« on: July 19, 2017, 06:28:04 PM »
Hoping the learned community on this forum can help me out.  I got a 7-inch Tennessee Sabot flat top bolt that was reportedly from the CSS Richmond.  The sabot fastening bolt unscrewed and I could remove the sabot.  Much to my surprise there were a great deal of markings on the back (the side with the studs that pressed against the shell base).  As you can see below it has a large “2” along with a smaller “H” and “A” on the back and the letters “H”, “A” and “S” individually on top of each post.  There are no markings on the cupped side.  The sabot looks good and the patina looks good all over as well.  Has anyone seen these markings or similar ones before?
Best,
Carl
