The latest article states that there are possibly a couple of hundred balls, that they may be pre Civil War and that until all of them are removed that they are being stored on site. The true facts are probably out there somewhere.

I have heard that the total may be as high as 700, but no they have not confirmed any number above 300.

I would say that by the statement that the balls still belong to the US Government, that they are seriously mired in red tape as to who is going to foot the bill for the disposal. www.heinzhistorycenter.org/blog/westernpennsylvania-history/cannonballs-unearthed-at-the-allegheny-arsenal

    Does anybody know if John Biemick has contacted, or been in contact with this group to help educate them ??  His military credentials and professionalism should be able to get his foot in the door there...  I would hope he talks to the guy at the history center, who wrote the informative article posted by Redbob.   By the one aerial photo in the article, they aren't so scared of them because they were moved and are now piled up by sandbags.  I was thinking how cool it would be to fly a drone in there to check them out.....

I was in Gettysburg earlier this month and I was told by our tour guide that all of these recently discovered cannonballs had been loaded up by the Army and destroyed.
