Bullet Reference Book?
« on: March 14, 2017, 10:02:25 AM »
A small favor, Please.  We are looking at the bullets recovered from the CSS Georgia wreck-site, and would like to know a good reference book that lists all of the small arm bullets used in the Civil War.  Specifically, we would like a reference that lists the "MM" numbers, so that others will know exactly which bullets we are talking about when we describe them.
Regards, Jim J.

I have a new copy of the out of print McKee and Mason bullet book on the commercial part of this website:

Although Thomas Publications has been sold, this little handbook is quite good and has a cross reference to many of the M&M bullets in the back:

I do not think I would recommend any other of the bullet reference books, but serious collectors should have both of these.

Ok, this post really threw me for a loop. I still have a headache from trying to figure this one out. :o Then I realized it wasn't  THE JimT asking the question but someone call signed JimJ  ::) I thought maybe JimT was pulling a joke on someone. Well he did get someone and he wasn't even involved. Good one JimJ.

It's not always "Survival of the fitest" sometimes the idiots get through.

Thank you Gentlemen, that was just what I was looking for!  It is nice to know that the CSS Georgia Enfield "57" bullets were made in England, since that is my heritage!  A little tidbit of information for you Guys, somebody on the CSS Georgia had a very nice Colt revolving carbine.  We have the bullets for it, pity we do not have the carbine as well.
