Nice collection of my favorite caliber shells and bolts. Why did you go with 3.3"?

I seem drawn to odd CS calibers, also like 2.25 , but not many variations. Intrigued by the reuse/ rebore/ makedo idea showing the ingenuity of people

I am thinking about doing the same with Tennessee sabots, but when it comes down to it I am interested in any shell that is a good deal that I dont already have in my larger collection.  Condition is a very important issue to me as well.

no Jealousy here Jon, I only want 4 of those ;D.  hotshot base has been on my list a long time, and really like the 8 flange proto. Very Nice. Tennesse's are also very nice, One of my favorite shells is my 2.25"

Why did both of you choose to start a sub collection?  By accident or plan?

The Hotshot was picked up in Franklin the first year I was there. The proto was picked up in Wheaton 2 years ago. The canister base is my most recent. Mike helped with locating a good portion of The James Gang.

2.25" would be nice size to collect, especially  since I am redoing a family room to make a Relic room andwill soon be moving everything downstairs. At least I don't have cannons to move. :)

When I started collecting I always liked the look of the James so intended to target them. However I also like the idea of more scarce shells, so added some of them to the mix. Other cheaper types of shells I like trying to get one of each family merely to show what they look like compared to the other types. So I guess you could say James started as my primary interest but then became a sub-collection by my not being able to stay focused.

My collection started cheep, 5 shells for $350, nothing uncommon. then I got a few more cheep  shells and then a book. then found out how many variation of shells there are. I spread funds acrossed 5-6 fields ( bayonets obviously) and decided I wanted example of different looking shells. while doing this, I found 3.3 was mainly just CS, shells varied wildly in shape and size and I like odd calibers, not just 3.3's now. , then there are REV war marked shells, and 70+ shells later still don't have all I want
