Title: Bushing tpi
Post by: pipedreamer65 on March 12, 2019, 04:54:46 PM
Anyone know the bushing tpi for naval water cap fuse?  The outer that screws into the shell.

I just looked in Chuck Jones's fuse book and I see that the bushing for the Parrott is 12TPI (Page 12).  But oddly it doesn't indicate what the standard ball bushing had for it's outer threads.  I'm sure someone else here knows.  If not I'll take one to work and check it with a thread gauge to see.

Thank you Carl, we will see if anyone else has something to add.

I don't have a metric thread gauge, just a US one, but 14tpi looks right to me.

I'll take one to work and get a machinist to tell me.

I had a machinist look at a good bushing in my collection and he determined it was 1 5/16" (1.3125") outside diameter with 14 TPI.  He did remark that the 14TPI wasn't a perfect fit likely due to the time period it was made but he compared with both metric and standard thread gauges.  This is in line with Mike and also Jack Bell's table where he describes the bushing as having a 1 1/3" (1.333") outside diameter with 14TPI.
