Title: Dalton Show
Post by: CarlS on January 29, 2019, 12:38:42 PM
I’m a bit late in starting this post but wanted to remind everyone that one of the best shows of the year is this weekend: the Dalton, GA Show.  It’s always a good show for buying and selling.    Please come by and say hello if you make it.   Can also bring any disarming or cleaning you need done.  See you there.

The show was a good time. Had a nice time hanging with Mike (x2), Carl, Relic Runner, Dave the Plumber and Sean. They had the majority of the artillery for sale, but some others had some nice, scarce stuff for sale too.

The pic is of some items that decided to follow me home from the show.
Round nose Marshall Arsenal Schenkl Bolt with sabot
    Brass Fuse 2.25" "Baby" Mulane
Brass Bormann Replacement Fuse - dug with perfect threads

The nice and rare thing about the baby Mullane is the fuse.  The shell is very scarce but most use a wood fuse adapter.  A few such as this one use the copper adapter and it is exceptionally rare.  it is like the common one used in the big shell but had to be made smaller to fit this small shell.  it is a mini-CS Adapter and I think only used in these shells.  Someone more up on fuses can correct me if they are found in other shells.

On Friday night I ran into someone offering me a "big Hotchkiss".  It turned out to be a 30-lber from Atlanta and I immediately said yes.  I knew I had a few 30-lbers already but was sure none were from Atlanta so I bought it for my collection.  It has, as you can see below, the Hotchkiss time adapter in it.  When I got home I was pleasantly surprised to find that none of my other 3 have that fuse so I now have what I think is all 4 types:
As you can see it still needs cleaning.  As I'm behind on cleaning for a few people it will have to wait.

I also picked up this Simpson and Walker Read shell for my collection.   Thanks to WoodenHead I knew what I was looking at.  Turns out the seller reads this forum and had seen WoodenHead's posting and knew what he was selling so that was good to see.  It was nice to pick up with the nice lathe lug on it.

Carl how’s the sabots on your 4.2’s?   I have one and although there is good rifling it shows that the shell did not do well in the gun when fired.
