Description:This is a short lived improvement over the original, unreliable style of Parrott percussion fuses. The taper was made to fit through the hole in the "shelf" cast in shells originally for the striker of the early style Parrott percussion fuses. Before long, the shells with this shelf were replaced with ones that took the more common straight-sided Parrott percussion fuse shown on Jones, page 84.

As a result, these are uncommon.
