Description:This is another neat relic recovered by Bebo Compton along the Confederate retreat route to Appomattox. Pete George has deduced that the Q is a stamp made at the Samson & Pae machine shop in Richmond which made ordnance for the Confederacy. This was a sideloader shell and it broke upon bursting along the weak spot made by the sideplug.

I have one of these that Bebo dug in the same area with an I stamped in it as well.
