Description:Posted to Fort Moultrie on Sullivan's Island, SC to defend Charleston Harbor, Orr'd Rifles earned the unenviable nickname of the "Pound Cake Regiment" in reference to their "light" garrison duty, limited engagements and closeness to home (presumably their families could bring them pound cake or other treats).

Here is an officer on the battlements of Fort Moultrie with cannon and a glimpse of Fort Sumter in the background. He is showing a lady friend the City of Charleston through his spyglass.

These were the early "salad days" for the regiment which would join the Army of Northern Virginia in April 1862 and fight with them for the rest of the war until the surrender at Appomattox.

Signed by Don Troiani and numbered 591 of 950. Framed size is 17" x 21.75"
