Description:1864 dated Model 1860 Cavalry Saber manufactured by Ames. This one was supposedly found in a closet at the sight of the Gen. John A. Logan GAR Post (#540) in Evanston, Illinois. It still has some traces of the old gold paint on both the scabbard and the saber handle. Apparently some other fraternal organization uses this building now.

This was undoubtedly one of the member's trusty hanger that he donated after the war. Scabard is the right kind but a little loose and may not be the original one, although as noted, it does have traces of the same gold paint as the saber around the end so has been with it for at least 100 years.
