Description:Iron fragment from a 12pdr Confederate polygonal cavity shell showing the diamond polygonal shape. These were designed to burst uniformally along lones of weakness that created geometrically patterned frags such as a diamond, pentagon or trapezoid. Diamond shaped ones generally come from Deep South areas whereas pentagon shaped ones are up nearer the Richmond area typically.
