Description: You hardly, if ever, see a section of a Hotchkiss shell in 3.8in size. This is the other half of the one I just sold. They were not used much, but at Vicksburg there were a lot of James rifles put to use.

This half has the "cut nail" in the base powder cavity. This pin held the sand casting core in place.
