Book: Jack Bell Page 63

Location Recovered: Fort Fisher, NC Area

Description:This is a nice example of the coulot or "pie piece" so named because of its shape. This is the part of the cannon ball opposite he fuse. The powder chamber is cast rounded except at the fuse to give a thicker shell wall for the fuse and opposite the fuse to balance out the shell so it wouldn't wobble when fired. For collectors it made for a neat piece of shrapnel.

This example was found in the Fort Fisher area and part of that massive bombardment at the end of the war. The iron is nice and hard and displays well.
