Description:This cannon ball was recovered from one of the places where the contents of the Augusta Arsenal were dumped after it was surrendered. This one was in the process of being completed, but the powder cavity had yet to be drilled out when production stopped. Also, it was filled with salvaged bullets as lead round balls were in extreme short supply to the Confederacy by the war's end. The half shell is no longer mounted on the wood plaque shown in the photos. A really neat end of war time capsule.
