Description:
Approximately .45 (average of widest and narrowest diameters) caliber Dimick rifle bullet recovered in Camp Davies at Corinth, MS. This one is a drop but it must've been stepped on as it has some period smooshing. It displays fine and the price is reflective of condition.
The 66th Illinois Infantry, better known as the "Western Sharpshooters," were camped here from November 1862 to November 1863. Near the end of this time many of them acquired new Henry rifles to replace their trusty, and highly accurate, Dimick rifles. At that time these bullets were no longer needed and so the soldiers discarded them like this one.
Only about 1200 Dimick rifles were made and each had its own mold paired with the gun. Because of all this, these bullets are scarce and highly desirable.
