Item Number: A01722

Item Title: Beautiful fired Confederate 3in Read Shell

Price: $595

Provenance: CS

Type: Read shell

Size: 3in

Sabot: Copper ring

Fuse: Wood time fuse adapter (missing)

Book:

Location Recovered: Chancellorsville area

Description:
Fired Read in very nice condition. Has the lathe lug on the nose and excellent seven lands and grooves rifling on the copper sabot. Neat piece in that a flame groove was cut by hand in the bottom bourellet at one place (see second photo), but not apparently in the copper sabot. Along with the wood time fuse adapter this one took, these attributes make this likely an early Read shell.
