Location Recovered: Seven Pines
Description:Rockets used during the American Civil War are extremely hard-to-find and desirable. Dug ones are harder to obtain than non dug and most often the thin metal skin is completely shot. This is one of 4 that was recovered in the area of the Seven Pines battlefield where they were known to have been used.
This one has been conserved, but not restored. I have seen others beautifully restored with Bondo before, but we didn't want to go that route with this one.
The conservation process consisted of using rust inhibitor on the iron surface and injecting the tube with epoxy to make it less fragile. It is solid enough to display safely now, but I am not going to ship this one and risk it falling apart. I will be driving all over the Eastern half of the US in the next 3 weeks and could drop it off if you are along my route (or could meet me along it), or I could bring it to the Mansfield Show.
