Description:A typical deep south Parrott with the Type III brass sabot these are very popular with collectors as the fuse and sabot show contrast with the cast iron body of the shell. The 10 pounder Parrott was a workhorse round for the armies and could be found all over the country.
While the Type III sabot often didn't take rifling well, this example appears to me to be unfired. The prior owner has cleaned up the sabot showing the bright brass color. The iron shows light ground action but there is nothing deep and one side is quite good. While the shell body is pretty dark it appears darker in the pictures than it really is. The part that really makes this shell is the fuse. Most of the time the zinc fuse in these shells is very corroded but this one is in very good shape. One of the spanner holes is very clear and the other one is evident. Normally you can't see any trace of them Plus the paper fuse is still present. This shell really displays very well and one this nice doesn't come along every day.
Shell is inert, cleaned and coated.
