Description:We see a lot of 12-lber Bormanns but the ones bigger than that don't come up very much. This is a Bormann shell for the 24 pounder gun. I remember finding one in Vicksburg which made my day and to this day remains the only one I found.
This projectile weighs in at 23lbs 2oz so would be a case shot variety. The iron has some ground action but nothing deep and there are areas that are real smooth. All in all quite good. The Bormann fuse is not as bad as most that are found in dug Bormann shells. It is better than the one I dug. :( The fuse is unpunched but shows no indication of numbers on the face. Possibly it is a braille version but I can't see any dots either. But there are no cracks or heavy corrosion on it. It is the style with the big single slot.
The shell is inert, cleaned and coated.
