Description:This is a transitional early Hotchkiss. It still has the pewter time fuse adapter but the shell has the flame grooves. Soon this fuse was replaced with the far more common brass Hotchkiss time adapter in future production. This projectile is uncleaned but the iron is in good condition and would clean up very nicely if run through electrolysis. This nose has been bolted to a display plaque with a nice brass standoff piece between the shell and wood base. The plaque is labeled with the projectile name and the recovery location. Presumably it was recovered without the shell base or lead sabot. A nice collectable to put in your collection or on your desk!

Shell is inert, uncleaned but is coated.
