Description:This shell came out of an old collection and is in fine shape. You can tell it is an early dig as the iron is very smooth and it is coated in the old varnish that yellowed with time. Note the picture of the fuse. It shows yellow lettering for the dig location "Wilderness" but the lettering is actually white but appears yellow from the varnish. This shell has the CS thin iron sabot fully intact showing the 3 lands-n-grooves of the Parrott rifle. It is in very good shape. The body of the shell is nice and smooth and shows the remains of the lathe lug on the nose. The base has a very big lathe dimple; as big as they come. It doesn't show well in my picture but it is a good one. The base also is the type that shows the square vent hole. The CS copper time fuse adapter is in pretty good shape only showing a ding from impact. The fuse also has nice lettering of the dig location of "Wilderness" plus some lettering just below that which I can't make out.

This is a real nice Confederate shell to pick up at a real good price.

Shell is inert, cleaned and (old) coated.
